Most installers use a single sheet of laminate that is bent at the corners for the tub surround, and caulk with silicone at the tub. A little nicer job is to extend the laminate 3" beyond the tub and install 3" wide strips of matching laminate in front of the tub. These "legs" keep the drywall dry in front of the tub.
