In response to Re: underlayment for bath tubs.

: I am building a custom house in austin,Texas. I have 3 bathrooms on the 2nd floor. The flooring is 3/4 inch plywood. I am afraid of water seeping from the bath tub onto the plywood with age. Do people use some sort of underlayment on which the Bathtub is mounted such as Durock or felt or both. In this case can u guys also tell me how to do it.

Most of the time, the tub sets on the 3/4" plywood, with the underlayment butted up to the tub. If the caulked seam between the tub and finish floor is good, it should stop the water. Problem areas have been at the corners where water runs down the wall at the front edge of the tub. Terry
