Experience with Tankless HotWater?

I am extremely cramped for space in a small house and am looking into tankless hot water options. My
best bet for squeezing a stacked washer/dryer into my house is where the existing hot water tank is, but
then the hot water has to move. Tankless seems perfect as the house is very small and I live alone, but
I've yet to find anyone with much experience with these things. I know these are popular in Europe, why
not here? Don't know if it matters, but I'll need a gas unit.

I'd also be interested in hearing any ideas about alternative hot water tank configurations/placements
(i.e., such as a crawlspace). Thanks!
