Cast-iron tub replace or retile

I have a bathroom with a nice sturdy cast-iron tub but the thin-set tile above the tub is shot and lets water leak to the first floor. Is it more of a hassel to replace the whole thing, or to pull the tile and be careful not to damage any of the tub? If I replace it they want a fiberglass insert tub. Any help is appreciated.
