Hot water will soften PVC pipe and the city pressure will then cause it to expand. There will come a time when it will eventually expand too much and break. I have seen it become so large it looked like an ostrich egg. The marking on the pipe will give the maximum temperature it is rated for, usually 140 degrees.

: I just finished putting a basement bathroom in, and used PVC for the water supply. (Yes, I admit to
: being a rank amateur - still learning!). Now I read an internet article that says not to use PVC
: for hot water. How much trouble am I in??? Do I need to rip out all the drywall and tub, and start over?
: It hasn't leaked so far. Advice???
