|In response to Re: Mysterious Crane Toilet Tank Cracks|
It is only mysterious when it happens to you for the first time. This is not a rare situation, except that if you had called me and said it happened, I would have asked if it was an American Standard tank, since that is the one it happens to most frequently. While not rare, it is rare to have it happen to two toilets in the same house. I would check to be sure that there is no hot water backing up into the cold water system, since that will crack a tank immediately.
: Two weeks ago, the tank of one of our Crane toilets cracked, resulting in a cascade of water that continued for about four hours. The fracture initiated at the top, and propagated downward about twelve inches. After a couple weeks of drying out our house, we arrived home to find that the tank had cracked on a second toilet in a different bathroom. The crack was almost identical. Should we replace our third and final tank, which is of the same casting date (October 26, 1995)before it fails too?
