And lastly...I can cover the drain with a rubber stop to keep out the odors for a temporary fix. But I'm wondering: if I don't cover it, isn't the drain releasing bacteria into the room? Isn't that dangerous?

Okay...I understand the 'overflow' question, I think. You're talking about the sink overflow...right? So how would you fix this in a shower?
