: I moved into a building which has a pump and a secondary back up. Despite a manual flush the day before, the high water alarm sounded and water was discharged. Where do I begin in terms of trouble shooting and solving this problem. These pumps were installed during a renovation 11 years ago and are referred to as, "tempermental". Sue, The sump pit where the pump is located may need a good cleaning. Also one of the switches may need changed out. If there are mercury switches in the pit they have a tendency to hang up on the build up of crud in the tank. I suggest calling a professional to look things over. Dale's Plumbing Service LMP
