: : Six months ago I had my gas water heater replaced. Afterwards the pipes started making a loud machine gun type noise when the hot water is on. Then several months later I noticed water coming from the pressure relief valve when the water is heating. What is causing the noise and could these be related. Will a thermal expansion tank solve these problems.

: Tom, Sounds like the expansion tank may be a good start.Dale's Plumbing Service Inc LMP
STEP 1: CHECK THE PRESSURE IN YUOR HOUSE. I'M REFERRING TO A PROBABLE PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE FAILURE, OR LACK OF ONE ENTIRELY. PUT A PRESSURE GUAGE ON THE DRAIN SPIGOT OF YOUR WATER HEATER, AND I'LL WAGER IT'S OVER 60PSI.
