: Six months ago I had my gas water heater replaced. Afterwards the pipes started making a loud machine gun type noise when the hot water is on. Then several months later I noticed water coming from the pressure relief valve when the water is heating. What is causing the noise and could these be related. Will a thermal expansion tank solve these problems. Tom, Sounds like the expansion tank may be a good start.Dale's Plumbing Service Inc LMP
