: I had my shower cartridge replaced by a plumber in June1998, and I already have the same leaking shower head as before. The shower won't turn off, and it is very annoying and water-wasteful to say the least! What is the life expectancy for a cartridge? It seems like it has only been a short time to be replacing it AGAIN so soon. Would hard water have anything to do with it? I know that a replacement should be easy, but turning off the water here in the condo complex is not so easy. Any suggestions? Linda, Given the right water conditions a moen cartridge can last 20 + years. But with bad water conditions as you can see who knows. A ceramic cartridge type faucet has a life time warrenty on them. Moen,American Standard, Delta And FaucetCraft are a few on the market. Some also have the shut off built in to the faucet so you do not have to shut the whole condo down.Dale's Plumbing Service Inc LMP
