Linda, Given the right water conditions a moen cartridge can last 20 + years. But with bad water conditions as you can see who knows. A ceramic cartridge type faucet has a life time warrenty on them. Moen,American Standard, Delta And FaucetCraft are a few on the market.Some also have the shut off built in to the faucet so you do not have to shut the whole condo down.Dale's Plumbing Service Inc LMP
