Greg, If the floor drains have been connected to the waste system with the use of traps to prevent sewer gas from entering the home it could be okay. Backing up could be caused by the main line, perhaps roots are growing into the lines. Many an old home in Seattle was constructed with floor drains in the basements for that very reason. 1) The floor drains should have some sort of trap if connected the waste line.
