PU What's that smell?

We just bought a house in October and now that it's finally gotten cold, we've noticed that whenever the heat comes on, a sewage smell is blowing out of the heat registers. The smell is worse on the top floors of the house. When we first moved in, the smell was slight and we thought it was old toilets and bad wax seals, so we replaced all the toilets.(choosing one of the toilets off of the toilets listed on Terry Love's low flow toilet report- and it was a success!) Turns out, it wasn't the toilets and it has worsened as the heat runs more now than it did then. What would be the first thing for us to look for to find the source of this smell? I am guessing it's something with the venting system of this house, but don't really know what to look for. Any help is appreciated. Please post a copy to my email address since I don't check this forum that often. Thank you so much. (rooster@umacs.net)
