|In response to Re: Pipe dope versus teflon tape|
: : This may seem like a ridiculously easy question but which is better to use on threaded pipe connections - pipe joint compound(aka pipe dope) or teflon tape. Thanks.
: Pat, that question can be debated for weeks among plumbers.I use both, and have had leaks with both.Teflon has an advantage as you can build up on the male threads to add extra insurance of the joint not leaking. I wrap 7 times over. Dale Peck LMP
Pat, I'm a homeowner with a fair amount of experience. I have finally settled on both. I wrap the pipe with tape several times, at least twice, with tape and then brush on a little teflon paste. I also put a small amount of teflon paste on the female threads. I find adding the paste provides some lubricant to insure a seal. Don Pierce Albuquerque
