The softener getting blocked is a somewhat common situation. It could be in the valve, or the distributor could have distorted and closed the small slits that allow the water to pass through. Unless it is the valve, repairing it may be more expensive than a new softener.

: Kenmore water softner 625.348400 has been in service for 15 years without problems. Water source changed from community well with small amount of iron to Lake Michigan water with no iron about one year ago. Over the last few monthes, water pressure has been dropping. Called water supplier. They came outand could fine nothing wrong with service to the house. When water softener was mentioned, it was suggested to put on by pass. When softner was put on bypass, full water pressure was restored. Is there any place the softner itself could be blocked? The only time the pressure is low is when water is passing through softner. Water is soft, so appliance is functioning in that respect. Help!! I love my soft water nd miss it.
