: I am buying a new house and notice that the bedroom right under a shower has heavy patching and paint on the ceiling and the ceiling in that spot is buckled. I would guess a leaky shower pan?? What does a shower pan cost to replace? Is the major cost in the shower pan or in the retiling of the shower stall? Can I do any of this myself to save money? I will be very very short on money when I move in!!

Most of the cost will be in the tile wall replacement, and yes, this is a job a homeowner can tackle. A good job, would be removal of the entire tile enclosure, (I use a sawzall) Inspection of the wood for damage and rot damage. Replacement of the shower faucet with a new pressure balanced one. This is a good time to replace the shower door also. Terry
