Gravity hot water central heating system

Hi terry, I have recrently replaced my direct hot water cylinder with a indirect cylinder and re-made all the pipe connections to allow for a expansion tank and overflow pipe. The problem is the gravity hot water no longer reaches the tank from the boiler even though the pipe is 28mm? PS Can I add an additional pump on the return to boost the flow. Ta
