Thanks for the input. I am amazed that every kit sold (almost every kit) states that you need a metal washer between the bolt head and the rubber washer. Am I correct to assume that the metal washer will distribute the needed pressure in too wide an area around the head of the bolt? Also, the manufacturer of the kit has instructions to place the rubber and metal washers on the two ends of the bolt (when set up - inside of the tank and the bottom of the bowl). They tell you to place the hex nut in the very middle with no washer, metal or rubber. This is the setup I used and have had no luck with. I noticed that another toilet in the house had a rubber and metal washer on the bottom of the tank as well as the washer connections that I mentioned above. I know that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and therefore, I apprecate your input and anyone else out there.
