Replacing copper pipe

My house was built in 1950 in Maryland near Washington DC. It has copper water pipes and the water is from a municipal water system. We recently developed a couple of pinhole leaks in one particular piece of pipe--not the joints, in the pipe itself. One plumber has advised that we replace all of the copper pipe, but a contractor has said this may not be necessary. I don't know how long copper pipe is supposed to last. Is this an appropriate time to replace it all? One wrinkle--we are planning a renovation involving a new bathroom and tearing out some walls, so this is may be a good time to repipe the house if this is called for.
