: Are the ABS waste pipes superior to the white plastic waste pipes being used by builders? My understanding is that the ABS are quieter and will last longer. Is is worth it to upgrade to ABS? Would it be better to upgrade to copper?
The white PVC pipes are quieter than ABS pipes for waste. Some people use no-hub cast iron pipes on the waste lines only for sound reduction. The toilet drain from the second floor to the crawlspace would be a good one to do. Changing the toilet line to cast shouldn't add very much. Terry
