Q. I'm considering adding a second-floor bathroom in an area which is over the first-floor kitchen. What is a good strategy for controlling the drain pipe noise?

Bud,
A) A good way to control sound of water being flushed is to use Cast iron no-hub pipe for all of the drains of the upstairs bathroom. The vents can be run in plastic pipe such as ABS or PVC.
