|In response to Re: Vent line|
: I am a Do-It-Yourself person. I live in a very old, above ground home in southern Louisiana. I installed another toilet which I connected to the existing sewer line. The existing sewer line had a vent but since the new fixture is at the end of the line, I installed another vent a couple of feet before it turned up to the new fixture. I am using 4" pipe, the vent is 1 1/2" pipe and there is about 30' between the two toilets. My delema is that even though I have not fully connected the toilet to the line, the odor/fumes are coming through the toilet. Do I need a larger vent line? Do I need to place in a different place? Any information/advice will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.
If the toilet were connected "fully", with a wax seal(s), then I would expect no sewer gas problems. The vent should daylight on the roof, if not "revented" to another vent stack.
