|In response to Re: leaking shower pan|
: : an insurance adjuster said our shower pan is leaking. he plugged the drain and let the water fill the bottom of the shower. after a bit, water could be seen leaking in several places around the bottom of the shower stall. a friend, who is a plumber, said it could be leaking from cracked grout and broken tiles and just to seal the tiles and regrout. i'm worried this could be a temporary patch and result in more damage. how can i be sure?
: How can you be sure? just do it. and wait for it to leak or do the right thing and replace the shower pan, expensive but trouble free for another 25 years or more.Dale
Tile and grout by nature are not water tight. The membrane below the mortar, tile and grout should be. It there is water leaking in a mud set shower pan, than the problem is in the membrane. Check the link below for information on mud set pans. Terry
