|In response to Re: Hot water heater - pilot keeps going out.|
: Last Thursday, we ran out of hot water and I discovered the pilot light was out. No big deal..right? Wrong! Since then, I have had to re-light the water heater everyday. I check it before I go to bed, still on. When I leave for work in the morning, the pilot is on. But by the time I get home in the afternoon it's out. It lights-up right away without any problems, and all other gas appliances in the house work fine.
: Any ideas on what could be causing the gas shut-off? Do I need a new water heater or just a new control unit? Could there be blockage somewhere next to the pilot which causes it to go out, and if so can I clean the line out?
: Any help is appreciated.
Johnie, change the thermo coulpling and clean out the pilot tube.make sure the flame is hitting the thermocoulpling. If that does not work it's control replaceing time. depending on the age of your heater you may just want to replace the one you have, Dale
