Jerry, i would say that it is in your best interest to have the whole shower replaced, or at least up the wall four tiles high,to insure that there can be no chance of any leaks,and put it in the contract that you will be responsible for any leaks because you wanted to take a short cut and try to save money.in my opinion in this project do all involved a favor and do it right.good luck on your project.
