Removal of tub spouts:
If threaded on; Use a set of water pump pliers to unthread. I sometimes wrap the jaws with cardboard to protect the finish. If it is a recent install, I can remove using my hands. If the spout has been on a long time, it can get pretty nicked up in the process.

Some tub spouts have an allen fitting under the spout. Loosening the allen screw will allow removal in this case.
