I am remodelling my bathroom and find that the toilet flange is over an inch off the floor. This means that the wax ring gets compressed to a couple of millimeters, leaving not much of a seal. It has evidently been this way a long time with no problems-- thoug I have no idea how well the new toilet will cope with this height.
The bend is quite close to the cast iron stack, and the bend has very little slope to it, so just dropping the bend would reguire cutting out a piece of the stack, and resintalling. I am hoping for an alternative.
Can I just saw off the flange and bolt a flange to the floor, using a wqay ring with a sleeve to get the waste into the bend? Better ideas?
