: : In 1997 my wife and I had a house built.Ever since it was complete there has been a sinchy odor that comes ands goes. The odor is outside and it smells like a backed up septic tank but the septic is new.The person that put the septic in said the exhaust pipe needed to be extended.I did this and the smell still comes and goes. Can you tell me what I need to do to correct this problem? Thanks,Steve

do you have a lift pump outside? i have seen the odor go through the conduit and follow it to where it comes out of the ground. but if you don't the vent is doing it's job of venting. are you in a vally where you can get a downwind? they have filters for vents that do this.you can put an elbow on the inlet side of the tank and that will stop the smell, but you will lose the venting to the tank but i'v never run into a problem because of the elbow in the tank.put a 12" peice into the 90 and face it down into the water. the water will stop the odor
