Sch 40 pvc should work, as long as it is primed and glued properly. Have you considered using 1" pex, then you would have no underground joints. Also up here we use series 160 polyethylene tubing for such applications. Rural, long and large diameter. The trick with series 160 is to put a check valve and expansion tank on the house end of the pipe to prevent backflow from the water heater into the polyethylene pipe.......Lou
