Drain Backup - Help Needed
Posted by RSMBob on April 20, 1998 at 13:24:40:
I live in a 2-story townhouse. Yesterday, the downstairs toilet backed up badly, overflowing with sewage, and it also backed up into the shower in the downstairs bathroom. It appears that it was caused by wash machine (in the garage) drainage. It also appears that some water bubbled up the stack vent abouve the washer and came out the top on the roof.

I tried plungers and drain openers in the bathroom and snaked out both the shower drain and wash machine drain (25 feet).

Current situation: when running any significant amount of water anywhere, the toilet bubbles (but does not overflow), and water comes up (with some sewage) in the shower. When I try to flush the toilet, sometimes it flushes once but then backs up again. After sitting for several minutes, the water level drops to the bottom of the toilet bowl.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanx,
Bob
