New bathroom, old house

I am installing a bathroom on the third floor of a circa 1840 house. It is difficult to hide all of the supply and drain lines because the floorboards are exposed to the second floor. I plan to run the main drain and supply lines down through two closets to the existing lines, but the tub is a problem. The tub drain is almost three feet out into the room from the toilet, so it can't be hidden in the closet. How many inches below the drain does the trap, etc., extend? I would like to box or wall in the plumbing above the floor of the bathroom to avoid having the trap visible in the second floor ceiling. The tub is a 1920's platform tub, so the drain is about six inches from the floor already. Thank you in advance for your help.
