: My thanks to Curt Freeman for his reply. I still have a question about the the flange height. Is it necessary to have the flange level with the height of the new tile floor? The flange originally sat on top of the vinyl flooring. Does the additional height of the tile make the floor bolts too short to mount the toilet, or is there a strain placed on the flange? Should the flange be level with the top of the tile, or set above the height of the tile? The flange is currently held in place only by the lead sweep formed down on top of the flange. There are no anchors or screws holding the flange to the concrete.
sam, you can use existing flange. you will need to get 3" brass floor flange bolts and a thicker wax rin. i put 2 wax rings on to make up the void.if this doesn't work they make a floor flange that will slip down inside your lead pipe and then you can anchor it to the floor it's called the 2 finger flange made by jones stephens corp.
