: When a second floor sink drains and its cool or cold outside : and the drain water is warm or hot. The wall where the pvc drain : pipe runs sounds like some on is hitting it with a hammer while the : water is draining. No other devices cause this noise. I have opened up : the wall and all I see is a 3" pvc pipe? can someone tell : me what causes this hammer noise and how to correct it? : thanks : Neil Monk :Home Depot has a anti-hammer unit that attaches to the waterline at the water heater.
