: Would like to hear from anyone who has had any experience in the last phase (10 years after installation) of the Cox Vs Shell lawsuit (polybutylene plumbing). We have had two leaks in the past month. Our home was built in May of 89. Any help would be appreciated.
Our house was built in 1989 and we bought it in 1996. Just last week at 2:00 A.M. one morning we were woken up by the sound of rushing water. My wife and I ran to the guest bath and found water pouring out of the vanity. Luckily I knew exactly where the household water cut-off was and we were able to close the main valve before we suffered any real damage. If we had not been home it would have been a different story. What we found was that the valve stem blew out. Within a couple days I had a plumber come out and replace all of the valves in the entire house. The one thing that amazes me is that Lowes still sells this crap. I took my 13 year old Qest cut-off valve to Lowes and they wanted to sell me an exact replacement. I mean you could hold the new valve next to the old valve and not tell the difference. Hopefully I'm not too late to submit a claim. Regards, Allan
