Very little bath water

While trying to turn of the water in the shower/bath (2 handle; Aquastream) the handle came off in my daughter's hand. This was just the hot water, knob. I just thought that I could replace the stem that broke, and I would be all set. When I put the replacement stem in, when I turned on the water, both the hot and cold water now run as a small stream. There is hardly any water coming out of the bathtub spout. I then took out the stem from both the hot and cold, and there is a very good flow going to the faucet. I also took off the tub spout and it is perfectly clear. Any other suggestions? The problem is that the faucet is behind a tub enclosure and the other side is drywall to a bedroom. Please help, I am very frusterated. Thank you for your help. Debbie
