Sewage Cleanup

Sewage recently backed up into my basement, about 1 foot deep. It made it above a raised concrete pad and into the furnace. I immediately called a plumber and he removed the blockage. The basement drained and is now dry and only somewhat smelly. My question is: Are there standard cleanup procedures to follow after such an event? Are there any sanitation guidelines I should follow to ensure that my basement is free of any lingering bacteria? Also, since the sewage made it into my furnace, are there any recommendations for cleaning this equipment? When I asked the plumber who removed the blockage what he recommended, he could tell me only that he did not provide that service. The trouble is, I can't figure out who does provide it.
