: I just bought a condo and am looking to replace the tub in the master bath with a stall shower. I can't help but think that building my own rather than putting in a pre-fab unit would look better, utilize the space better and hopefully not cost as much. Questions: Am I a fool? Can't I just pour my own base, tile it and two of the walls and put up tempered glass and a door? If so, where are the best places to get these raw materials? I'm in Dallas... any thoughts? Thanks. JOHN Its a little more than that. The first thing to do once the old tub has been removed is to change the drain pipe from 1 1/2" to 2". Once the drain is installed, you need to waterproof the floor and sidewalls with felt and tar. Then you can pour the base with a 2% grade towards the drain. After that its pretty much as you described. -Aros |
