Tup refinishing consists of spraying a new finish (usually acrylic) over an old tub. The new finish is rather fragile and can crack and peel easily. For the prices you are being quoted, you can get a new acrylic tup for about the same money. I would, however, consider upgrading to a steel or Americast tub for a few hundred dollars more. Installation extra. BUT, you would never have to worry about it again. : I need some advice. The tub in our home is peeling badly; it was refinished by the previous owners and was starting to peel when we moved in, but is half-way gone now. I'm getting quotes of $450+ to refinish it. As we hate the tire around the tub anyway, I'm leaning towards installing a shower stall. Would this a) be cheaper and b) be something a novice could handle by himself?
