|In response to Re: Is a hole in sump pump drain pipe necessary?|
The hole is only necessary when they already have a check valve in the line.
: : I found a hole in my sump pump pvc pipe, just above the pump, but still inside the sump pump pit. Is this to allow the water to flow out when the pump has stopped, or is it a defect I should fix?
: : The pvc travels up ten feet, and then about forty feet to the outside. The hole allows a fair amount of water to back up into the pit when the pump is running. Hi the hole is so you do not get what they call air lock then your pump will not work properly,if you are worried about the water comeing back you should install what they call a check valve in your line that will not allow your water to come back. Hopefully i helped a little Jason
