Check the bottom element. It may have failed in such a way that it is bypassing the lower thermostat and heating the water until the reset trips. : I have a waterheater that keeps tripping the thermostat, and I have to repeatedly reset the thermal switch. I replaced the thermostat and still have the same problem.Does anyone have a suggestion for solving this dillema?
