the heaters are guaranteed for at least 5 years so the second and third ones would be free if they only last 2 years. In that case, I would purchase a 10 or 12 year heater to take advantage of the longer time frame. : I live outside of Fremont NE, We have very hard water. I have a 200 ft well by 6 inches wide. Before we put the new well in we had a water softer and iron filter. With the new well we were told if we ran the water softer every day we would not need the iron filter anymore. I do still have it. Anyway over the last 10 years our electic water heaters do not last 2 years. They are AO Smith units, Model ec52917. We do take the magnesium,I think, rod out or our hot water really has the old rotten egg smell.
