|In response to Re: Glass Block Shower|
: We are building a new home and interested in having Glass Block Shower in the master bathroom. I've found
: there are two ways to install using mortor or sealant made by IBP. Can you share the pros/cons or recommend
: one over the other? Does glass blocks hold up over time in showers, or is this something we should shy
: away from?
We cutomarily build ceramic tile/glass block showers. Maybe a panel in one wall will be glass, and possibly an outside window. The rest of the shower will be tile.
A shower made completely from glass block would be very difficult to construct and even harder to waterproof. The base, at least, would have to be tile, along with curbs all the way around, this to facilitate shower pan installation. Additionally, it is next to impossible to properly mount door enclosure hardware to glass blocks, as they can't be drilled.
Finding a qualified tile setter isn't going to be easy. There are fewer "mud men" than there used to be. I'm one of the last in my area.
