I used a black and decker brand glass drill bit. went thru the tile like butter. What you use to hold the shower rod depends on what you find behind the tile. If you find a stud, use a wood screw. if you find empty space, use the biggest toggle bolt or moly bolt you can find. dont forget to fill the hole with caulking.
If you have a stud behind the tile where the rod is going, the expanding shower curtin rods generaly work fine and it's not necessary to drill. if it's between studs, some times the wall will flex and let the rod fall or even crack the tile.
