swap from wall to spout shower diverter?

Is there a way to change from a wall shower diverter to a spout type? If so can someone explain to me how to do so? I am no kind of plumber at all and have been trying to stop leaks and now when I turn the wall diverter to turn on the shower I get very little water pressure. I am tired of dealing with it and would like to change it to the spout style. Thanks for any help. SG
