You can, but it is not advisable because the wonderboard can hold moisture successfully, but the plaster cannot. The right way is to remove the plaster, put up a vapor barrier, and nail the cement board to the studs.
If you absolutely need to leave up the plaster board, go with a waterproof glue to apply the wonderboard, Not thinset.
