: Could the plumber's putty be used to seal threaded brass connections for cold water supply line, instead of using the pipe joint compound or Teflon tape? If not, what implications would this have down the road if done?

According to the book "Plumbing a house" by Peter Hemp, you should wrap the male piece with teflon tape and put plumber's dope on the threads of the female piece. He says it really lowers the chance of a leak.
