: I had a similar situation. I would strongly advise against shims/caulk bead, you want the water closet to be absolutely stable to avoid leaks at the wax seal and/or seasickness when you are using it. My solution ultimately was to cut off the PVC pipe below the old flange (using a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel working around the inside of the pipe) and adding the new flange with a new coupling. It was a nasty little project but well worth the trouble. Good Luck! CM : : Terry what a great site! : : My flange site sits too high now that new floor is in. The toilet needs plastic shims to sit correctly. Should I leave it as is or should a plumber reset flange which is PVC pipe. I had an old tile floor before which I guess was higher. : : I was also thinking of a nice silicone caulk bead aound underside of toilet, allowing it to set up for a while then replacing toilet over flange may help. : : thanks in advance!
