tile-in kitchen sink

I want to install a flush-mount tile-in sink. I plan to set the tile in thin-set mortar on 1/4" wonderboard over 3/4" plywood. The sink is about 3/8 inches thick and the tile is about 1/4" thick. I assume that if I use a 1/4 X 1/4 square trowel, it will give me a flat surface from the counter into the sink, if I set the sink onto the wonderboard. Is the wonderboard a suitable surface to support the sink, or should I put 1/4 plywood shims under the sink instead of the wonderboard? If I should place the sink on the wonderboard, should I first fill in cracks and edges with mortar? thanks
