water lines constant running and ready hot water

This may be a stupid question but since I am a new home owner and never involved in plumbing, had to ask. We recently bought a home, a one story in Florida and last week had first experience with a hard freeze. Not sure if that had anything to do with anything but this weekend noticed that there is always the sound of running water in our bathrooms. Also, now when we turn the hot water on, we have immediate hot water. And now occasionally we have air in the water lines in our bathroom closest to the water heater (electric). Maybe there is nothing wrong and we haven't noticed before. But, could it be explained what is going on. Thanks.
