PVC to bronze pipe transition

I am putting in a new tub and need to attach my new PVC drain kit to the existing bronze trap. Can I just screw the PVC pipe to the bronze trap without worrying about leaks? I I am worried about transitioning two different materials together. Or, do I need to cut off the old trap and use a no hub coupling (rubber connector with ring clamps) to connect a new PVC trap to the bronze pipe. Please advise. Thanks, George
